    Butterflies

A friend of mine recently went through a break up. I wanted to do what I could to help encourage her. I wanted to empower her. So I wrote. “Does a butterfly value each flower it lands on just in case it could be the last?” I wrote to soothe, comfort and show that this isn’t something she’ll have to face alone. That none of us face alone. You can read my guest post for Phonic Words here. Make sure you subscribe to The Loz Blog for more relationship posts.

An open letter to my heartbroken self

He’s not worth it. When you’re 17 he’ll seem worth it. But he’s not. Life seems larger and when he breaks your heart, you’ll think the world is ending. It’s only beginning! 22 seems like years away and it is. Trust your future self when I say the hurt will pass. It’s been a while since I thought about you. Today you crossed my mind. Maybe it was because I looked at our current man and thought I needed the heartbreak to get to this point. He’s mighty fine by the way. You have a lot to look forward to. We thought first love meant only love. How silly were…

    Liked that movie? Read this!

‘Why would I read when I could watch?’ – A common question from my boyfriend. Movies are great. He isn’t wrong, but movies don’t allow you to explore quite as far as a book does. Page by page the exploration goes until you want it to end. Each character is pictured to your liking and the world invites only you. It’s one of those simple pleasure. There’s nothing like getting lost in words on the page. However, sometimes movies and TV can provide great inspiration for your next amazing read. This is the blog post for you if you’re after the same feels that your favourite blockbuster gives. If you…

    Resist, don’t hit snooze!

There really is no such thing as a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 job anymore. It was always meant to be a tough gig. Breaking into your industry right after that long degree. Adulting is difficult. Mastering the grocery store is hard enough let alone venturing into the working world. When your alarm list ranges from normal to ridiculous that my friend is adulthood. When each alarm is separated by minutes to allow yourself a few seconds of snooze, that too is adulthood. It’s not until this stage in life do you wonder why the heck you feared ‘bedtime’ at 7pm as a kid.  Ever watch the morning routine videos…

Jessica Alba’s confidence booster goes beyond ‘Honey’

Jessica Alba is someone I have little to do with. I don’t mean to say that as if it’s something which should shock you. Cause I know it doesn’t. The fact I wouldn’t have much to do with a major Hollywood actress surprises nobody. What I mean is that I’ve only really seen one of her movies. I thought she was Justin Timberlake’s wife for a short minute. It was short. My mind blank took away Jessica Biel. The reason Alba is important to the beginning of my post, however, is because although I know little about her, I do know she’s had to work relentlessly for the career she has.…

    Dear Ex-Best Friend

Dear Ex-Best Friend, It’s been a while since we spoke last. Well, I suppose you can’t really call it that. We didn’t ‘speak’. It was more of a war with words. Spite and anger the fuel in the fire. Despite the bitter end I often think about the sweetness that came before. Laughter, memories and joy that are breakups mine now, instead of ours. Things that were once shared are now not. I’ve been through breakups, ones you held my hand through, but none compare to this loss. It’s similar. I mean, you delete the pictures on your phone, removed from all social media and left to wonder what could have…

    Let him pick the movie

My boyfriend picked the movie and now I’m riddled with issues. In every relationship it’s give and take. Something we all know and respect. It’s a rule that never seems to stray from movie choice. Whether it be at home on the couch or the big screen, there’s politics behind the choice. It’s a case of taking turns, but my boyfriend’s manners and chivalry dictates for every two I pick he gets one. It has a lot to do with my argumentative nature. Apparently I have one. When it comes time for his pick I dread it. Unfortunately for me he is a horror fan. Often he’ll watch them alone,…

    Swiping right in real life

How on earth did our Grandparents do it? They had no tinder to swipe, no Facebook to stalk. Was romance even real? The Newsroom

I have watched devastating bushfires, Kim Jong Un’s handshake with the leader of South Korea and a royal wedding all from my seat in a newsroom. It’s the front row seat to the world’s most riveting, heartbreaking and unbelievable stories. I’ve held back tears and laughed all while hunched over a computer glued to the news breaking before me. Working in a newsroom is something I always hoped that I’d do. I’ve always loved writing and using that ability to create stories.  Journalists that I’ve admired for years are now my colleagues and even friends. Nothing compares to the feeling you get after that journalist you admire follows you back…
